Objektbeschreibung:

NGC 2547 liegt am Südsternhimmel im Sternbild Vela (das Segel des Schiffs) und ist etwa 1500 Lichtjahre von der Erde entfernt. Er wird nach Trumpler als Typ II 2 p klassifiziert. Der Sternhaufen wurde im Jahr 1751 von dem französischen Astronomen Nicolas-Louis de Lacaille während einer astronomischen Expedition zum Kap der Guten Hoffnung in Südafrika entdeckt.

NGC 2547 liegt eingebettet in einer Region, die die durch lichtschwache H-II Regionen und Dunkelwolken dominiert wird. Der helle Stern oben im Bild ist Gamma Velorum, ein sehr junges und massereiches Mehrfach Sternsystem, der mit der Vela-OB2-Assoziation und dem Gum-Nebel in Verbindung gebracht wird. Die beiden Hauptkomponenten sind bereits mit einem kleinen Teleskop zu trennen.

In der markanten, konzentrierten Dunkelwolke links unten im Bild befindet sich der Protostern Herbig Haro 46/47. Diese Region werden wir im Detail im Jahr 2023 mit unserem PlaneWave Astrographen aufnehmen.

Object description

NGC 2547 is located in the southern starry sky in the constellation Vela (the sail of the ship) and is about 1500 light years away from Earth. It is classified as type II 2 p according to Trumpler. The star cluster was discovered in 1751 by the French astronomer Nicolas-Louis de Lacaille during an astronomical expedition to the Cape of Good Hope in South Africa.

NGC 2547 is embedded in a region dominated by faint H-II regions and dark clouds. The bright star at the top of the image is Gamma Velorum, a very young and massive multiple star system associated with the Vela-OB2 association and the Gum Nebula. The two main components can already be separated with a small telescope.

In the prominent concentrated dark cloud at the bottom left of the image is the protostar Herbig Haro 46/47. We will image this region in detail in 2023 with our PlaneWave Astrograph. Here you can find more information about NGC 2547 from ESO.
