NGC 2547 - an open star cluster in the constellation Vela
NGC 2547 - Unser Bild zeigt eine wunderschöne Ansammlung junger blauer Sterne im Sternbild Vela. Im New General Catalouge ist er als NGC 2547 katalogisiert. Es ist eine Gruppe von etwa 80 gerade erst entstandener Sternen. Er ist etwa 1.750 Lichtjahre von der Erde entfernt und wird nach Trumpler der Klasse II 2 p n zugeordnet. Das Alter der Sterne wird auf 20 bis 30 Millionen Jahre geschätzt. Im Kernbereich liegen Reflexionsnebel, die als GN 08.08.6 katalogisiert sind und sich in unserem Bild schwach andeuten. Entdeckt wurde NGC 2547 im Jahr 1751 von Nicolas Louis de Lacaille. Weitere Information zu NGC 2547 der ESO sind hier zu finden. Und hier zeigen wir ein weitwinkliges Mosaik der Region um NGC 2547.
Object description
NGC 2547 - Our image shows a beautiful cluster of young blue stars in the constellation Vela. In the New General Catalouge it is cataloged as NGC 2547. It is a group of about 80 stars that have just formed. It is about 1,750 light-years from Earth and is classified as class II 2 p n according to Trumpler. The age of the stars is estimated at 20 to 30 million years. Reflection nebulae, cataloged as GN 08.08.6, lie in the core region and are faintly hinted at in our image. NGC 2547 was discovered in 1751 by Nicolas Louis de Lacaille. More information about NGC 2547 from ESO can be found here. And here we show a wide-angle mosaic of the region around NGC 2547.
