Sandqvist 111 - cometary globules in the constellation Vela
Sandqvist 111 - Unser Bild zeigt eine staubige Region mit 2 so genannten kometare Globulen, die dem Gum Nebel - dem großen Supernovaüberrest - im Sternbild Vela zugeordnet werden. Unten links im Bild sind Ausläufer der Dunkelwolke GN 08.26.2 und den gelben Reflexionsnebel vdBH 16.
Die beiden kometaren Globulen im Bildmittelpunkt tragen keine GN Nummern und haben eine Entfernung von etwa 1.450 Lichtjahren zum Sonnensystem. Sie sind (links im Bild) mit BHR 37 und (rechts) mit ESO 210-6A katalogisiert. Die Region ist ein Gebiet aktiver Sternentstehung. Am nördlichen Rand von ESO 210-6A liegt das längliche Objekt Herbig-Haro HH 46/47. Der in der Dunkelwolke verborgene Stern stößt Materie über so genannte Jets in 2 Richtungen aus, die das umgebende Gasmaterial ionisieren. Ein weiterer junger Stern befindet sich am linken Bildrand und erzeugt de kleinen gelben Reflexionsnebel.
Object description
Sandqvist 111 - Our image shows a dusty region with 2 so-called cometary globules associated with the Gum Nebula - the large supernova remnant - in the constellation Vela. In the lower left of the image are fringes of the dark cloud GN 08.26.2 and the yellow reflection nebula vdBH 16.

The two
cometary globules in the center of the image have no GN numbers and are about
1,450 light-years away from the solar system. They are cataloged (left of
image) as BHR 37 and (right) as
ESO 210-6A. The region is an area of active star
formation. At the northern edge of ESO 210-6A is the elongated object
Herbig-Haro HH 46/47. The star, hidden in the dark
cloud, ejects matter in 2 directions via so-called jets that ionize the
surrounding gaseous material. Another young star is located at the left edge of
the image and creates the small yellow reflection nebula.
