RCW 129 und LBN 1102- sind zwei sich über lagergende, seltene Reflexionsnebel im Sternbild Skorpion. Normalerweise sind Reflexionsnebel in blauer Farbe, da sie durch massive, blaue O- und B Sterne illuminiert werden. Im Fall von RCW 129 und LBN 1102 ist der Stern, der die Nebel zum leuchten bringt, der gelb-rot leuchtende Stern Antares. Die Nebelregion und Antares sind etwa 600 Lichtjahre vom Sonnensystem entfernt.
Weiter zeigt unser Bild die beiden Kugelsternhaufen Messier 4 und NGC 6144 und blaue Reflexionsnebel und die H-II Region LBN 1101/1105 und LBN 1106 nordwestlich von Messier 4 um den hellen Stern sigma Scorpio.
Object description
RCW 129 and LBN 1102- are two rare reflection nebulae superimposed on top of each other in the constellation Scorpio. Reflection nebulae are typically blue in color because they are illuminated by massive, blue O- and B-type stars. In the case of RCW 129 and LBN 1102, the star that causes the nebulae to glow is the yellow-red star Antares. The nebula region and Antares are about 600 light-years away from the solar system.
Our image also shows the two globular clusters Messier 4 and NGC 6144, as well as blue reflection nebulae and the H-II regions LBN 1101/1105 and LBN 1106 northwest of Messier 4, surrounding the bright star Sigma Scorpii.
