IC 2966 - a small reflection nebula in the constellation Musca
IC 2966 - ist ein kleiner Reflexionsnebel und steht mit einer scheinbaren Entfernung von nur 2 Grad im Schatten des benachbarten "Running Chicken" Nebels (IC 2944) und wird nur selten fotografiert. Völlig zu Unrecht, denn der Nebel zeigt einige zarte Strukturen im Inneren sowie eine kleine Dunkelwolke im südlichen Teil und einen schwachen H-alpha Übergang nach Norden hin. Der Nebel hat einen wahren Durchmesser von etwa 25 Lichtjahren und ist ungefähr 14.500 Lichtjahre vom Sonnensystem entfernt.Vom "Running Chicken" Nebels zeigen wir hier ein Bild von uns. IC 2966 wurde im Jahre 1826 von James Dunlop entdeckt.
Object description
IC 2966 - is a small reflection nebula and, with an apparent distance of only 2 degrees, stands in the shadow of the neighboring "Running Chicken" Nebula (IC 2944) and is rarely photographed. This is completely unfair, as the nebula displays some delicate structures in its interior, as well as a small dark cloud in the southern part and a faint H-alpha transition towards the north. The nebula has a true diameter of about 25 light-years and is approximately 14,500 light-years away from the solar system. Here we show a picture of the "Running Chicken" Nebula taken by us. IC 2966 was discovered in 1826 by James Dunlop.
