Objektbeschreibung:

Unser Bild zeigt in einer Widefieldansicht von 2 kleinen Galaxiengruppen im Sternbild Jungfrau. Oben im Bild (nördlich) NGC 5566, NGC 5568 und NGC 5569. Unten im Bild sind es NGC 5577, NGC 5574 und NGC 5576.

NGC 5566, NGC 5568 und NGC 5569 - auch als Arp 286 katalogisiert ist ein gravitativ wechselwirkendes Galaxien Trio, etwa 65 Millionen Lichtjahre vom Sonnensystem entfernt. Eine Aufnahme in hoher Bildauflösung zeigen wir hier.

In etwa gleicher Entfernung zum Sonnensystem findet sich das Trio NGC 5577, NGC 5574 und NGC 5576. NGC 5577 ist eine Spiralgalaxie mit ausgedehnten Sternentstehungsgebieten, die beiden anderen werden als elliptische Galaxien eingeordnet. Beide Gruppen sind Mitglieder des großen Virgo Supergalaxien Haufens.

Object description

Our image shows a wide-field view of two small galaxy groups in the constellation Virgo. At the top of the image (north) are NGC 5566, NGC 5568, and NGC 5569. At the bottom of the image are NGC 5577, NGC 5574, and NGC 5576.

NGC 5566, NGC 5568, and NGC 5569 - also catalogued as Arp 286 - is a gravitationally interacting trio of galaxies, about 65 million light-years from the solar system. A high resolution image we show here.

At roughly the same distance from the solar system is the trio NGC 5577, NGC 5574, and NGC 5576. NGC 5577 is a spiral galaxy with extensive star-forming regions, while the other two are classified as elliptical galaxies. Both groups are members of the large Virgo Supergalaxy Cluster.
