Unser Bild zeigt eine Widefieldansicht der kleinen Galaxiengruppe Messier 105, NGC 3384 und NGC 3389 im Sternbild Löwe. M 105 ist eine elliptische Galaxie und Mitglied der rund 40 Millionen Lichtjahre entfernten Leo I Galaxiengruppe, welche auch Messier 95, Messier 96 und weitere schwächere Galaxien enthält. Wie die meisten elliptischen Galaxien erscheint M 105 ziemlich strukturlos und inaktiv. Im Kern sitzt ein schwarzen Lochs von etwa 200 Millionen Sonnenmassen, die Galaxie an sich besitzt eine Gesamtmasse von etwa 100 Milliarden Sonnenmassen.

NGC 3389 wird als Spiralgalaxie vom Hubble-Typ Sc klassifiziert, sie ist etwa 50 Millionen Lichjahre vm Sonnensystem entfernt. Auffällig ist ihre blaue Farbe, die auf starke Sternentstehung schließen lässt. Messier 105 und NGC 3384 stehen mit einer Entfernung von etwa 35 Millionen Lichtjahre dem Sonnensystem näher als NGC 3389, deren Entfenrung auf ungefähr 50 Millionen Lichtjahre geschätzt wird.

Object description

Our image shows a wide-field view of the small galaxy group Messier 105, NGC 3384 and NGC 3389 in the constellation Leo. M 105 is an elliptical galaxy and a member of the Leo I galaxy group, located about 40 million light-years away, which includes M 95, M 96, and other fainter galaxies. Like most elliptical galaxies, M 105 appears fairly unstructured and inactive.

NGC 3389 is classified as a Hubble Sc spiral galaxy and is located approximately 50 million light-years from the solar system. Its blue color is striking, suggesting intense star formation. Messier 105 and NGC 3384 are closer to the solar system than NGC 3389, at a distance of about 35 million light-years, compared to NGC 3389, which is estimated to be about 50 million light-years away.
