Objektbeschreibung:

NGC 5560, NGC 5566 und NGC 5569 - sind ein Paradebeispiel für eine kleine Gruppe ravitativ wechselwirkender Galaxien im Sternbild Jungfrau. Die Gruppe ist etwa 75 Millionen Lichtjahre vom Sonnensystem entfernt.

NGC 5566 ist eine Balken-Spiralgalaxie mit aktivem Galaxienkern vom Hubble-Typ SBab mit einem wahren Durchmesser von ungefähr 135.000 Lichtjahren. Gemeinsam mit den Galaxien NGC 5560 und NGC 5569 bildet sie ein gravitativ wechselwirkendes Trio die Halton Arp als Nummer 286 in seinen Katalog aufnahm. Er gliederte seinen Katalog ungewöhnlicher Galaxien nach rein morphologischen Kriterien in Gruppen.

NGC 5569 (nördlich von NGC 5560) wird als Balken Spirale klassifiziert und wurde am 26. April 1849 vom irischen Astronomen George Johnstone Stoney entdeckt. NGC 5560 wird ebenfalls als Balnespirale klassifiert und wurde am 30. April 1786 zusammen mit NGC 5566 vom deutsch-britischen Astronomen Wilhelm Herschel entdeckt.

Object description

NGC 5560, NGC 5566 and NGC 5569 - are a prime example of a small group of gravitationally interacting galaxies in the constellation Virgo. The group is about 75 million light-years away from the solar system.
NGC 5566 is a barred spiral galaxy with an active galactic nucleus of Hubble type SBab with a true diameter of approximately 135,000 light-years. Together with the galaxies NGC 5560 and NGC 5569, it forms a gravitationally interacting trio that Halton Arp included as number 286 in his catalog. He organized his catalog of unusual galaxies into groups based on purely morphological criteria.

NGC 5569 (north of NGC 5560) is classified as a barred spiral and was discovered on April 26, 1849, by Irish astronomer George Johnstone Stoney. NGC 5560 is also classified as a barred spiral and was discovered on April 30, 1786, together with NGC 5566, by the German-British astronomer Wilhelm Herschel.
