Objektbeschreibung:

NGC 5248 - ist eine Balken-Spiralgalaxie mit ausgedehnten Sternentstehungsgebieten und aktiven Kern vom Hubble-Typ SBbc. Sie liegt im Sternbild Bootes an der Grenze zum Sternbild Jungfrau und ist etwa 50 Millionen Lichtjahre von der Milchstraße entfernt. Sie hat einen Durchmesser von knapp 100.000 Lichtjahren uns ist somit etwas kleiner als die Milchstraße.

Die kleine, scheibenförmige Galaxie nördlich von NGC 5248 ist als PGC 48 114 katalogiesiert. Sie ist mit einer Entfernung von 300 Millionen Lichtjahren 6-mal weiter entfernt. NGC 5248 wurde am 15. April 1784 von Wilhelm Herschel entdeckt

Object description

NGC 5248 - is a barred spiral galaxy with extensive star-forming regions and an active core of Hubble type SBbc. It is located in the constellation Bootes on the border with the constellation Virgo and is about 50 million light-years away from the Milky Way. It has a diameter of just under 100,000 light-years, making it slightly smaller than the Milky Way.

The small, disk-shaped galaxy north of NGC 5248 is cataloged as PGC 48 114. At a distance of 300 million light-years, it is six times farther away.
