Messier 95 - ist ein wunderschönes Beispiel für den Prototyp einer Balken Spiralgalaxie im Sternbild Löwe. Wir blicken nahezu senkrecht auf die Rotationsachse der Galaxie und können so den zentralen Balken sehen, der die beiden Hauptspiralarme mit einander verbindet. Sie wird nach der Hubble Sequenz als Typ SB(r)b und zudem als Starburstgalaxie klassifiziert. M95 ist etwa 30 Millionen Lichtjahe vom Sonnensystem entfernt und am 20. März 1781 von dem französischen Astronomen Pierre Méchain entdeckt.

Object description

Messier 95 - is a beautiful example of the prototype of a barred spiral galaxy in the constellation Leo. We are looking almost perpendicular to the galaxy's axis of rotation and can therefore see the central bar connecting the two main spiral arms. It is classified as type SB(r)b according to the Hubble sequence and also as a starburst galaxy. M95 is about 30 million light-years away from the solar system and was discovered on March 20, 1781, by the French astronomer Pierre Méchain.
