Objektbeschreibung:

Messier 88 - ist eine Spiralgalaxie vom Hubble-Typ Sb im Sternbild Haar der Berenike (Coma Berenices). Sie ist schätzungsweise 100 Millionen Lichtjahre von der Milchstraße entfernt. Links oben in unserem Bild zeigt sich NGC 4516. Es ist eine spiralförmige Zwerggalaxie vom Hubble-Typ SBab. Sie ist schätzungsweise 40 Millionen Lichtjahre von der Milchstraße entfernt und hat einen Durchmesser von nur 20.000 Lichtjahren. Messier 88 wurde am 18. März 1781 vom französischen Astronomen Charles Messier zusammen mit sieben anderen Galaxien des Virgo-Galaxienhaufens entdeckt.

Object description

Messier 88 - is a Hubble-type Sb spiral galaxy in the constellation Coma Berenices. It is estimated to be 100 million light-years away from the Milky Way. NGC 4516 is shown at the top left of our image. It is a spiral dwarf galaxy of Hubble type SBab. It is estimated to be 40 million light-years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of only 20,000 light-years.Messier 88 was discovered on March 18, 1781, by French astronomer Charles Messier, along with seven other galaxies in the Virgo galaxy cluster.
