Messier 100 and the small galaxy cluster Holm 387 in the constellation Coma Berenice
Messier 100 - unser Bild zeigt als Hauptobjekt die Galaxie Messier 100. Sie ist eine aktive Balken-Spiralgalaxie mit ausgedehnten Sternentstehungsgebieten vom Hubble-Typ SBbc im Sternbild Haar der Berenike. M 100 ist ein Teil des Virgo Galaxienhaufens, liegt aber nicht zentral sondern am nördlichen Rand des Haufens. Ihre Entfernung zum Sonnensystem beträgt ungefähr knapp 70 Millionen Lichtjahre. Sie ähnelt in Masse und Größe unserer Milchstraße. M 100 ist die zentrale Galaxie einer kleinen Galaxiengruppe, die als Holm 387 katalogisiert ist und zu der vornehmlich Zwerggalaxien gehören. Links oben im Bild zeigen sich auffällig viele lichtschwache gelbliche Objekte. Es sind sehr weit entfernte Galaxie, die zum Galaxienhaufen Zwicky 5113.

description Messier 100 - Our image shows the galaxy Messier 100 as its main object. It is an active barred spiral galaxy with extensive star-forming regions of Hubble type SBbc in the constellation Coma Berenices. M 100 is part of the Virgo galaxy cluster, but is not located at its center, rather at its northern edge. Its distance from the solar system is approximately 70 million light-years. It is similar in mass and size to our Milky Way.
