Sandquist 169 in the constellation Circinus
Sandquist 169 - Unser Bild zeigt den Dunkelwolkenkomplex Sandquist 169 im Sternbild Circinus . Er liegt direkt südöstlich von alpha Centauri inmitten der südlichen Milchstraße. Es ist die drittgrößte Dunkelwolke des Sandquist Kataloges, der 1977 publiziert wurde. Zusammen mit einigen weiteren östlich liegenden Dunkelwolken wird die Region auch als die Circinuswolke bezeichnet.
Innerhalb der dichtesten Partien findet aktuell Sternentstehung - vornehmlich von Massearmen Sternen - statt. Im infraroten Licht lassen sich mindesten 6 Herbig-Haro Objekte beobachten. Die Gesamtmasse der Dunkelwolke wird auf etwa 50.000 Sonnenmassen geschätzt. Sie liegt ungefähr 2.300 Lichtjahre vom Sonnensystem entfernt und hat diagonal einen wahren Durchmesser von etwa 2 Lichtjahren.
Object description
Sandquist 169 - Our image shows the dark cloud complex Sandquist 169 in the constellation Circinus. It lies direct southeast of Alpha Centauri in the middle of the southern Milky Way. It is the third largest dark cloud in the Sandquist catalog, which was published in 1977. Together with several other dark clouds to the east, the region is also known as the Circinus Cloud.
Star formation is currently taking place within the densest parts, primarily of low-mass stars. At least six Herbig-Haro objects can be observed in infrared light. The total mass of the dark cloud is estimated at about 50,000 solar masses. It is located about 2,300 light-years from the solar system and has a true diameter of about 2 light-years diagonally.
