Dark clouds in the constellation Ophiuchus
Dunkelwolken im Sternbild Ophiuchus - unser Bild zeigt ein großes Mosaik - bestehend aus 8 Segmenten - von Dunkelwolken im Sternbild Ophiuchus (Schlangenträger). Das Bild umfasst knapp 130 Quadratgrad des Himmels. Im unteren Bildteil steht der so genannte "Pfeifennebels". Der hellere Stern annähernd in Bildmitte ist 44 Ophiuchus. Darüber steht der Schlangenebel (Barnard 72) und eine Kette kleinerer, aber sehr dichter Dunkelwolken um Barnard 86 (siehe dazu auch das beschriftete Bild weiter unten.
Auffallend am Mosaik ist der diagonal durch das Bild laufende Himmelshintergrund des Bildes. Links gelblich-rötlich, in Richtung des Zentrums unserer Galaxie das Licht der Sterne gerötet durch Staub und Gas und rechts Sternregionen mehr oder weniger frei von Staub und Gas. Object
description Dark clouds in the constellation Ophiuchus - Our image shows a large mosaic-consisting of eight segments-of dark clouds in the constellation Ophiuchus (the Serpent Bearer). The image covers almost 130 square degrees of the sky. The lower part of the image shows the so-called "Pfeifennebels" (Pipe Nebula). The brighter star approximately in the center of the image is 44 Ophiuchus. Above it is the Snake Nebula (Barnard 72) and a chain of smaller but very dense dark clouds around Barnard 86 (see also the labeled image below). A striking feature of the mosaic is the celestial background running diagonally across the image. On the left, it is yellowish-reddish, towards the center of our galaxy the light of the stars is reddened by dust and gas, and on the right, star regions are more or less free of dust and gas.
