IC 2966 - a small Reflection Nebula in the Constellation Musca

Objektbeschreibung:

IC 2966- Der kleine Reflexionsnebel steht mit einer Entfernung von nur 2 Grad quasi im Schatten des benachbarten "Running Chicken" Nebels (IC 2944/48) und wird nur selten fotografiert. Im Prinzip völlig zu Unrecht, denn der Nebel zeigt einige zarte Strukturen im Inneren sowie eine kleine Dunkelwolke im südlichen Teil und einen schwachen H?-Übergang nach Norden hin. Seine Entfernung zum Sonnensystem beträgt etwa 14.500 Lichtjahre und die wahre Größe überdeckt ungefähr 25 Lichtjahe. IC 2966 wurde am 8. Mai 1826 von James Dunlop - einem schottischen Astronomen der in Australien arbeitete - entdeckt.

Object description

IC 2699 - The small reflection nebula stands with a distance of only 2 degrees quasi in the shadow of the neighboring "Running Chicken" nebula (IC 2944/48) and is rarely photographed. In principle quite wrongly, because the nebula shows some delicate structures in the interior as well as a small dark cloud in the southern part and a faint H?-transition towards the north. Its distance to the solar system is about 14,500 light-years and its true size covers about 25 light-years. IC 2966 was discovered on May 8, 1826 by James Dunlop - a Scottish astronomer working in Australia.
