NGC 3603 and NGC 3579 - Spectacular landscapes of star formation in the constellation Carina
NGC 3603 und NGX 3579 Unser Bild zeigt ein Mosaik aus 2 Segmenten zweier spektakulären Sternentstehungsregionen im Sternbild Carina. Sie befinden sich beide Carina-Sagittarius Spiralarm unserer Milchstraße. Auf der linken Seite des Bildes dominiert der kleine offene Sternhaufen NGC 3603 mit einer Entfernung von rund 22.000 Lichtjahren zum Sonnenssystem. Die zweite Region, im unserem Bild auf der rechten Seite, ist eine Ansammlung von leutenden Gaswolken, bekannt als NGC 3576. Sie ist etwa 9000 Lichtjahre von der Erde entfernt.
Die komplette H-II Region ist auch als RCW 57 katalogisiert. Beide Regionen zeigen wir als Einzelbilder in hoher Bildauflösung. NGC 3603 hier und NGC 3579 hier. Eine ausführliche Beschreibung beider Objekte der ESO ist hier zu finden.
Object description
NGC 3603 and NGC 3579 Our image shows a mosaic of 2 segments of two spectacular star forming regions in the constellation Carina. They are both located Carina-Sagittarius spiral arm of our Milky Way. On the left side of the image the small open star cluster NGC 3603 dominates with a distance of about 22,000 light years to the solar system. The second region, in our image on the right, is a collection of luminous gas clouds known as NGC 3576, which is about 9000 light-years from Earth. The complete H-II region is also cataloged as RCW 57.
