NGC 3132 - a small planetary nebula in the constellation Vela
NGC 3132 - ist ein kleiner planetarischer Nebel im Sternbild Vela in einer Entfernung von etwa 2.500 zum Sonnensystem. Er hat einen wahren Durchmesser von etwa einem halben Lichtjahr. Seine äußere Hülle expandiert mit ungefähr 15km/sek. Im englischen trägt er auch den Namen "Eight-Burst-Nebula". In einigen Publikationen wird er aufgrund seiner Ähnlichkeit zu Ringnebel im Sternbild Leier auch als Südlicher Ringnebel bezeichnet. Er wurde am 2. März 1835 von dem britischen Astronomen John Herschel entdeckt.
Object description
NGC 3132 - is a small planetary nebula in the constellation Vela at a distance of about 2,500 from the solar system. It has a true diameter of about half a light year. Its outer envelope is expanding at about 15km/sec. It is also called "Eight-Burst-Nebula". In some publications it is also called Southern Ring Nebula because of its similarity to Ring Nebula in the constellation Lyra. It was discovered on March 2, 1835 by the British astronomer John Herschel.
