NGC 2237, 2238,2239, 2246 and 2244 - the Rosette Nebula in the constallation Monocerotis
Der Rosettennebel ist ein diffuser Emissionsnebel mit einem eingebettetem jungen, offenen Sternhaufen im Sternbild Einhorn. Heute bezeichnen die NGC-Objekte NGC 2237 (Beobachtung von Lewis A. Swift von 1865), NGC 2238 (Beobachtung von Albert Marth vom 28. Februar 1864), NGC 2239 (Beobachtung von John Herschel vom März 1830) und NGC 2246 (Beobachtung von Lewis A. Swift vom 27. Februar 1886) verschiedene Teile des Nebels.
Im Zentrum des Nebels befindet sich der offene Sternhaufen NGC 2244 = (NGC 2239) mit etwa 100 Sternen, deren massereichen und heiße Sterne das Wasserstoffgas zum Leuchten anregt. Nach Trumpler wird er der Klasse II 3 r n zugeordnet. Die Entfernung beträgt etwa 5.200 Lichtjahre, das Alter der Sterne wird auf ungefähr 5 Millionen Jahre geschätzt.

Object description:
The Rosette Nebula is a diffuse emission nebula with an embedded young open star cluster in the constellation Unicorn. Today, the NGC objects NGC 2237 (observation by Lewis A. Swift in 1865), NGC 2238 (observation by Albert Marth on 28 February 1864), NGC 2239 (observation by John Herschel in March 1830) and NGC 2246 (observation by Lewis A. Swift on 27 February 1886) designate different parts of the nebula.
In the centre of the nebula is the open star cluster NGC 2244 = (NGC 2239) with about 100 stars, whose massive and hot stars stimulate the hydrogen gas to glow. According to Trumpler it is assigned to class II 3 r n. The distance is about 5,200 light years, the age of the stars is estimated at about 5 million years.
