Objektbeschreibung:

NGC2451 und NGC 2477 - sind 2 offene Sternhaufen im Sternbild Puppis (Achterdeck des Schiffes). NGC 2477 (links im Bild) hat einen wahren Durchmesser von 30 Lichtjahren und beinhaltet über 300 ältere Sterne. Er wird nach Trumpler der Klasse I 3 r zugeordnet und ist etwa 5.000 Lichtjahre vom Sonnensystem entfernt.

Die Sterne von NGC 2451 sind deutlich jünger. Nach heutigen Erkenntnissen besteht NGC 2451 aus zwei Sternhaufen (NGC 2451A und B) die optisch auf einer Linie liegen und 650 bzw. 1.200 Lichtjahre vom Sonnensystem entfernt sind. Als Gesamtheit wird er nach Trumpler der Klasse II 2 p zugeordnet. Die H-II Emission im Hintergrund des Bildes ist als GN 07.53.0 katalogisiert.

Object description

NGC2451 and NGC 2477 - are two open star clusters in the constellation Puppis (the ship's stern). NGC 2477 (on the left in the image) has a true diameter of 30 light-years and contains over 300 older stars. It is classified as Class I 3 r according to Trumpler and is about 5,000 light-years away from the solar system.

The stars in NGC 2451 are significantly younger. According to current knowledge, NGC 2451 consists of two star clusters (NGC 2451A and B) that appear to lie in a straight line and are 650 and 1,200 light-years, respectively, from the solar system. As a whole, it is classified as Trumpler Class II 2 p. The H-II emission in the background of the image is cataloged as GN 07.53.0.
