Object description Van den Bergh-Hagen 99 - Although the star cluster is large and bright, and is located in a prominent region of the constellation Carina, very little information is available about it. It is approximately 1,700 light-years away from the solar system. Thus, it is not part of the Eta Carina complex, which is located much farther away. NGC 3324 lies north of the star cluster, and the Wolf-Rayet nebula WR 23 lies east of it. Both are part of the Eta Carina star-forming region. The Van den Bergh-Hagen Catalog is an astronomical catalog of open star clusters in our Milky Way and was published in 1975 by astronomers Sidney van den Bergh and Gretchen Luft Hagen. |
