Pismis 4 - Pismis 4 - unser Bild zeigt den offenen Sternhaufen Pismis 4 zusammen mit einigen Filamenten des Vela Supernovaüberrestes. Über den Sternhaufen ist im Internet so gut wie keine Informatione zu finden. Pismis 4 beinhaltet etwa 45, sehr junge Sterne, deren hellster knapp die 8. Größenklasse erreicht. Eine Widefieldansicht, zusammen mit dem offenen Sternhaufen VdbH 34 zeigen wir hier.

Pismis 4 befindet sich in der gleichen Sichtlinie wie Filamente des Vela Supernova-Überrest - am Himmel nur unweit der Position des Vela Pulsars entfernt - aber mit einer Entfernung von knapp 2.000 Lichtjahren deutlich weiter entfernt als der Vela Pulsar und deren Filamente, die nur etwa 800 Lichtjahre vom Sonnensystem entfernt sind. Paris Marie Pismis war eine Armenische Astronomin (1911-1999) die offene Sternhaufen in Mexiko studierte. Ihr Lebenslauf und der berufliche Werdegang ist hier zu finden.

Object description

Pismis 4 - Pismis 4 – our image shows the open star cluster Pismis 4 together with some filaments of the Vela supernova remnant. There is virtually no information about this star cluster on the Internet. Pismis 4 contains about 45 very young stars, the brightest of which barely reaches magnitude 8. Here we show a wide-field view together with the open star cluster VdbH 34.

Pismis 4 is located in the same line of sight as filaments of the Vela supernova remnant—not far from the position of the Vela pulsar in the sky—but at a distance of almost 2,000 light-years, it is significantly further away than the Vela pulsar and its filaments, which are only about 800 light-years from the solar system. Paris Marie Pismis was an Armenian astronomer (1911-1999) who studied open star clusters in Mexico. Her biography and professional career can be found here.
