NGC 6334 and NGC 6357 - Cat's Paw and the Lobster in the Constellation Scorpio
Das Zentrum unserer Milchstarße - Unser Bild zeigt eine Weitwinkelansicht auf das Zentrum unserer Milchstraße im Sternbild Schütze bei den galaktischen Koordinaten 0 Grad Länge und 0 Grad Breite. Es ist rund 26.700 Lichtjahre vom Sonnensystem entfernt und im sichtbaren Licht hinter gigantischen Gas und Staubwolken verborgen. Sie absorbieren das Licht der dahinter- und darin liegenden Sterne nahezu vollständig. Erst mit längeren Wellenlängen im Infraroten Bereich kann der Staub durchdrungen werden und das helle Zentrum wird "sichtbar". Dort liegt das supermassereiche Schwarze Loch Sagittarius A* mit einer Masse von 4,1 Millionen Sonnenmassen. In unserem Bild liegt das galaktische Zentrum exakt zwischen den Emissionsnebeln Sh2-16 und Sh2-17, die im beschrifteten Bild (unten) gekennzeichnet sind.
Object description
The center of our Milky Way - Our image shows a wide-angle view of the center of our Milky Way in the constellation Sagittarius at galactic coordinates 0 degrees longitude and 0 degrees latitude. It is about 26,700 light years away from the solar system and hidden in visible light behind gigantic gas and dust clouds.

They absorb the light of the stars behind and within them
almost completely. Only with longer wavelengths in the infrared range the dust
can be penetrated and the bright center becomes "visible". There lies the
supermassive black hole
Sagittarius A* with a mass of 4.1 million solar masses. In
our image, the galactic center lies exactly between the emission nebulae Sh2-16
and Sh2-17, which are marked in the labeled image
