The belt stars of Orion - Alnitak, Alnilam and Mintaka
Die Gürtelsterne des Orion - Unser Bild zeigt die Himmelsregion zentriert auf die 3 Gürtelsterne des Sternbilds Orion. Es sind von links nach rechts Alnitak, Alnilam und Mintaka. Alle 3 Sterne sind blaue Überriesen der Spektralklasse B0 und A0. Es sind die leuchtkräftigsten und heißesten Mitglieder in dem großen, hellen offenen Sternhaufen Collinder 70 in dessen Zentrum Alnilam steht.
Collinder 70 ist ein äußerst junger Sternhaufen, dessen Sterne erst etwa 5 Millionen Jahrealt sind, was sich durch zum Haufen gehörende klassische T-Tauri-Sterne und große, heiße B0-Sterne wie z. B. Alnilam belegen lässt. Im Mittel sind die Sterne etwa 1.300 Lichtjahre vom Sonnensystem entfernt. Er enthält mit Alnilam und Alnitak zwei der drei Gürtelsterne des Sternbilds Orion und etwa weitere 130 Sterne.
Unmittelbar in der Nähe von Alnitak befinden sich der Pferdekopfnebel (IC 343) und der Flammennebel (NGC 2024) als Teile des großen Orion-Nebelkomplexes. Links oben im Bild ist noch ein Teil von Messier 78 zu sehen. Die komplette rechte Bildhälfte ist durchzogen von diffuser H-II Wasserstoffemission.
Object description
Orion's Belt Stars - Our image shows the sky region centered on the 3 belt stars of the constellation Orion. They are from left to right Alnitak, Alnilam and Mintaka. All 3 stars are blue supergiants of spectral class B0 and A0. They are the most luminous and hottest members in the large, bright open star cluster Collinder 70 in whose center is Alnilam.
Collinder 70 is an extremely young cluster, whose stars are only about 5 million years old, which can be proved by classical T Tauri stars belonging to the cluster and large, hot B0 stars like Alnilam. On average, the stars are about 1,300 light-years from the solar system. It contains Alnilam and Alnitak, two of the three belt stars of the constellation Orion, and about another 130 stars.
Close to Alnitak are the Horsehead Nebula (IC 343) and the Flame Nebula (NGC 2024) as parts of the large Orion nebula complex. In the upper left of the image a part of Messier 78 is still visible. The complete right half of the image is riddled with diffuse H-II hydrogen emission.
