Pismis 19 - a small open star cluster in the constellation of Centaurus
Pismis 19 - Unser Bild zeigt eine detaillierte Ansicht des kleinen offenen Sternhaufens Pismis 19 im Sternbild Zentaurus. Zu Pismis 19 sind nur wenig Informationen verfügbar. Der Sternhaufen hat einen scheinbaren Durchmesser von nur 3 Bogenminuten und die hellsten Sterne sind etwa 12. Größenklasse. Auffällig ist die intensive gelblich- rötliche Farbe der Sterne, die infolge hoher interstellarer Absorption durch davor liegendem Staub zurückzuführen ist (E(B-V) =1,45 mag).
Pismis 19 hat eine Entfernung von etwa 8.000 Lichtjahre zum Sonnensystem. Das Alter Sterne wird auf etwa 800 Millionen Jahre geschätzt. Nach Trumpler wird er der Klasse I 1 r zugeordnet.
Weitere Objekte im Bild sind ein Teil des großen offenen Sternhaufens NGC 5617 (rechts oben im Bild) und der planetarische Nebel Henize 2-111 (PK 315.0-00.3 am linken Bildrand), von dem wir hier ein großes Bild zeigen. Paris Maria Pismis war eine Astronomin armenischer Abstammung, die in Mexiko über offene Sternhaufen geforscht und einen entsprechenden Katalog veröffentlicht hat. Eine wissenschaftliche Untersuchung zu Pismis 19 ist hier zu finden.
Object description
Pismis 19 - Our image shows a detailed view of the small open star cluster Pismis 19 in the constellation Centaurus. Only little information is available about Pismis 19. The cluster has an apparent diameter of only 3 arcminutes and the brightest stars are about 12th magnitude. Striking is the intense yellowish-reddish color of the stars, which is due to high interstellar absorption by dust in front (E(B-V) =1.45 mag).
Pismis 19 has a distance of about 8,000 light years to the solar system. The age of the star is estimated to be about 800 million years. According to Trumpler it is assigned to the class I 1 r.
Other objects in the image are a part of the large open star cluster NGC 5617 (top right of the image) and the planetary nebula Henize 2-111 (PK 315.0-00.3), of which we show a large image here. Paris Maria Pismis was an astronomer of Armenian descent who did research on open star clusters in Mexico and published a corresponding catalog. A scientific study of Pismis 19 can be found here.
