NGC 6193 und NGC 6188 - Unser Bild zeigt einen Blick auf die spektakuläre Sternenstehungsregion NGC 6193 und NGC 6188. Links der Bildmitte steht der sehr junge, offene Sternhaufen NGC 6193, der ungefähr 40 helle Sterne enthält und das Herz der Sternansammlung Ara OB 1 bildet. Er wird nach Trumpler der Klasse II 3 p n zugeordnet und ist etwa 4.000 Lichtjahre vom Sonnensystem entfernt.
Rechts der Bildmitte ist eine Mischung von H-II, Dunkelwolken und Reflexionsnebel zu sehen, die als NGC 6188 katalogisiert ist. Die beiden hellsten Sterne in NGC 6193 bilden die Hauptionisieungsquelle für den nahen Emissionsnebel, der im englischen Sprachraum wegen seines starken Kontrasts zwischen Hell und Dunkel auch als Rim-Nebel bezeichnet wird.
NGC 6193 wurde am 14. Mai 1826 von James Dunlop und NGC 6188 am 15. April 1836 von John Herschel entdeckt. Weitere Informationen über diese Region gibt die ESO hier.
Object description
NGC 6193 and NGC 6188 - Our image shows a view of the spectacular star forming region NGC 6193 and NGC 6188. To the left of the center of the image is the very young open star cluster NGC 6193, which contains about 40 bright stars and forms the heart of the star cluster Ara OB 1. It is assigned to class II 3 p n according to Trumpler and is about 4,000 light-years away from the solar system.
To the right of the image center is a mixture of H-II, dark clouds, and reflection nebulae cataloged as NGC 6188. The two brightest stars in NGC 6193 form the main ionization source for the nearby emission nebula, also known in English as the Rim Nebula because of its strong contrast between light and dark.
NGC 6193 was discovered by James Dunlop on May 14, 1826, and NGC 6188 was discovered by John Herschel on April 15, 1836. More information about this region is given by ESO here. .
