NGC 3293 - an open star cluster in a constellation Carina
NGC 3293 - Der offene Sternhaufen NGC 3293 befindet sich nordwestlich des Carinanebels im Sternbild Schiffskiel. Der einzelne Rote Riese im Haufen bildet einen ganz ähnlichen Farbkontrast zu den anderen blauen und heißen Riesensternen wie Herschels Schmuckkästchen NGC 4755. Darüber hinaus ist NGC 3293 von einem blauen Reflexionsnebel durchzogen, der einen weiteren Farbkontrast zum roten Emissionsnebel Gum 30 im Hintergrund erzeugt.
Der Sternhaufen ist etwa 8.000 Lichtjahre entfernt und enthält rund 50 junge Sterne im Alter von 6 bis 20 Millionen Jahren. Er wird nach Trumpler der Klasse I 3 r n zugeordnet. NGC 3293 wurde im Jahr 1751 vom französischen Astronomen Nicolas Louis de Lacaille entdeckt. Detaillierte Informationen der ESO sind hier zu finden.
Object description
NGC 3293 - The open star cluster NGC 3293 is located northwest of the Carina Nebula in the constellation Ship's Keel. The single red giant in the cluster forms a very similar color contrast to the other blue and hot giant stars like Herschel's jewel box NGC 4755. Furthermore, NGC 3293 is crossed by a blue reflection nebula which creates another color contrast to the red emission nebula Gum 30 in the background.
The cluster is about 8,000 light-years away and contains about 50 young stars ranging in age from 6 to 20 million years. It is assigned to class I 3 r n according to Trumpler. NGC 3293 was discovered in 1751 by the French astronomer Nicolas Louis de Lacaille. Detailed information from ESO can be found here.
