NGC 3572, Hogg 10 and Hogg 11 - open star clusters in the constellation Carina
NGC 3572 - Unser Bild zeigt 3 galaktische offene Sternhaufen im Sternbild Carina. NGC 3572 beinhaltet etwa 40 Sterne und wird nach Trumpler der Klasse I 2 m n zugeordnet. Die hellsten Sterne sind viel massereicher als unsere Sonne und werden ihr kurzes Leben durch Supernovaexplosionen beenden.
Die schwache H-II Emission im Bild ist als GN 11.14.0.0 katalogisiert. NGC 3572 wurde am 14. März 1834 von John Herschel entdeckt. Nähere Informationen der ESO hier.
Die beiden weiteren Sternhaufen im Bild sind Hogg 10 und Hogg 11. Sie stammen aus einem Katalog offener Sternhaufen von Helen Battles Sawyer Hogg. Sie war eine kanadische Astronomin die zusammen mit Harlow Shapley über Sternhaufen forschte. Alle 3 Sternhaufen haben ähnliche Entfernungen zum Sonnensystem, für NGC 3572 gilt etwa 9.000 Lichtjahre. Die beiden Hogg Haufen stehen näher, hier sind es um die 7.500 Lichtjahre.
Object description
NGC 3572 Our image shows 3 galactic open star clusters in the constellation Carina. NGC 3572 contains about 40 stars and is assigned to class I 2 m n according to Trumpler. The brightest stars are much more massive than our Sun and will end their short life by supernova explosions. .

The faint H-II emission in the image is cataloged as
GN 11.14.0.0. NGC 3572 was discovered by John
Herschel on March 14, 1834.

information from ESO here. The two other star clusters in the image are Hogg 10 and Hogg 11, from a catalog of open star clusters by Helen Battles Sawyer Hogg. She was a Canadian astronomer who did research on star clusters together with Harlow Shapley. All 3 clusters have similar distances to the solar system, for NGC 3572 about 9,000 light years.
