NGC 2353 and LBN 1036 - Open Cluster and H-II Emission in the Constellation Unicorn (Monoceros)
NGC 2353 ist ein schöner offener Sternhaufen im Sternbild Einhorn (Monoceros). Er beinhaltet etwa 200 (visuell etwa 30) Sterne, wird nach Trumpler der Klasse II 2 p zugeordnet und ist ungefähr 3.600 Lichtjahre vom Sonnensystem entfernt. Die schwach leuchtenden H-II Regionen im Bild sind als LBN 1034 und LBN 1036 katalogisiert. NGC 2353 wurde am 10. Januar 1785 von William Herschel entdeckt.
Object description
NGC 2353 is a beautiful open star cluster in the constellation Unicorn (Monoceros). It contains about 200 (visually about 30) stars, is assigned to class II 2 p according to Trumpler and is about 3,600 light-years away from the solar system. The faint H-II regions in the image are cataloged as LBN 1034 and LBN 1036. NGC 2353 was discovered by William Herschel on January 10, 1785..
