High resolution mosaic of the Southern Cross constellation and the Coal Sack
Nahezu 280 Quadradgrad südliche Milchstraße. Dieses Mosaik ist zweifellos eines unserer "Master pieces". Aufgenommen mit einem Williams Optic RedCat 51 mit 250mm Brennweite. Dieser kleine, aber feine apochromatische Refraktor mit einem Öffnungsverhältnis von f/4.9 kam im Jahr 2022 zum ersten mal zum Einsatz (siehe auch unser Mosaik der großen Magellanschen Wolke) und schlägt alle unser Canon Teleobjektive ähnlicher Brennweite in der optischen Qualität um Längen. Das Originalmosaik hat eine Größe von 13.200 x 9.400 Pixel. Download 50% Originalgröße.
Das Gesamtbild besteht aus insgesamt 20 einzelnen Segmenten mit einer Gesamtbelichtungszeit von etwa 20 Stunden. Das Mosaik zeigt einen Bereich nördlich und südlich des galaktischen Äquators der Sternbilder Centaurus und Kreuz des Südens zusammen mit der Dunkelwolke des "Kohlensacks, der fotografisch gar nicht so sternarm erscheint, wie mit dem bloßen Auge. Das Mosaik beginnt bei 294,5 Grad (IC 2944/48) - und endet bei etwa 308 Grad galaktische Länge. In der Höhe werden knapp 10 Grad überdeckt. Bildorientierung: Norden oben, Osten links, waagerecht = Rektasension und senkrecht = Deklination. Der galaktische Äquator liegt fast waagerecht knapp unterhalb des Sterns Acrux im Kreuz des Südens.

Object description
Nearly 280 square degrees of the southern Milky Way. This mosaic is undoubtedly one of our "master pieces". Taken with a Williams Optic RedCat 51 at 250mm focal length. This small but fine apochromatic refractor with a focal ratio of f/4.9 was used for the first time in 2022 (see also our mosaic of the Large Magellanic Cloud) and beats all our Canon telephoto lenses of similar focal length in optical quality by far. The original mosaic has a size of 13,200 x 9,400 pixels. Download 50% original size.

The overall image consists of a total of 20 individual segments
with a total exposure time of about 20 hours. The mosaic shows an area north
and south of the galactic equator of the constellations Centaurus and Southern
Cross together with the dark cloud of the "Coal Sack, which photographically
does not appear to be as star-poor as it does to the naked eye. The mosaic
starts at 294.5 degrees (IC 2944/48) - and ends at about 308 degrees galactic
longitude. In altitude just under 10 degrees are covered. Image orientation:
north up, east left, horizontal = right ascension and vertical = declination.
The galactic equator is almost horizontal just below the star Acrux in the
