Description of object:
In the north of the Orion Nebula, which can be partly seen in the
lower part of the image, a Moon-sized area of reflection nebulas can be found.
These blueish nebulas around NGC 1977 belong to the Orion molecular cloud at a
distance of about 1500 lightyears.
The interstellar dust mainly reflects
the blue light from the embedded hot young stars. In the inner part of the
nebula, the stellar radiation is strong enough to create a weak emission nebula
with the shape of a running man. |
